Karen "Glitch" Corcoran |
For the past few weeks we have asked for you to submit a Roller Derby haiku in the comments section which entered you into a contest to win a set of Heartless wheels. After reading through them all and having fans vote on FaceBook, we finally have a winner! Congratulations to Karen Corcoran (aka Glitch) and her victorious haiku:
Pulses are pretty,
But I beat all the jammers
with ugly Street Hogs
But I beat all the jammers
with ugly Street Hogs
Nice right? Our other 2 finalists, Laura Wilcoxon and Kayla Cline, as well as all of the other entries were awesome and I really appreciate all the creative juices that flowed to create them.
Our next give-away is this awesome package of Bones Stuff! Bones Bearing Washer Bottle, Speed Cream, 8-pack of Super Reds (or 16-pack of Reds), Bones Bearing Tool, and Bones Stickers! All you need to do to enter your name in this drawing is post a comment with the Roller Derby name you've seen or heard that you think is hilarious, interesting, poignant, raunchy, or just strange. You don't have to know them personally, but if you know what league they are affiliated with please post that too. Actually, just post both of your leagues, that makes it easier to find you later when you win. When I choose a name, I'll also send a purple Triple 8 CPSC Helmet to any skater of your choice as well!
I know most of my readers are from the Roller Derby world, but this goodie pack is perfect for any skate/longboarder as well so if you would rather post your favorite skate/longboarder name then have at it.
I'll draw the winner(s) on July 22nd, so you have a month to get your entries in. Please spread the word of the contest (and, my blog of course) far and wide. The more people visit this site, the more stuff I can get from sponsors to give away!
The last thing I needed to talk about was that I will be taking some time off. Up here in Alaska we only get a few very short months for summer and it is usually spent traveling, hiking, fishing, outdoor skating, etc. So, I'm going to take a little time off from writing reviews here, but I am trying out some Atom Lowboys (95a) and Jukes (93a), I got some new Juice wheels that are brand spanking new to the market so that's exciting, and I'm expecting to get some new toestops from Crazy Skates very soon, so I should be able to get back into the swing of things (blog-wise) quickly upon my return.
I hope you all are also able to enjoy the summer (Northern Hemisphere readers, of course) and, as always:
Until we skate again,
Shocker

ReplyDeleteI am Karmakaze from the Sioux City Roller Dames of Iowa. My most favorite derby name as of late is Drew P. Dick from Minnesota - during our tournament this weekend, one of our announcers made the fatal Freudian slip when she exclaimed "Oh, I just love Drew P. Dick!"
ReplyDeleteI'm skitzocat from the bloody bettys in Mexico. i love the name of one of our players Lynn Striker, in our first bout she met an stalker who was a fan of dupstep, so we started to call her Lynn Stalker o Lynn Skrillex.
ReplyDeletealso she is the coordinator of the merchandise committee and our coach asked her Lynn the stickers?, so now we call her Lynn Stikers but also Lynn snickers
Hey Skizocat! Thanks for entering the drawing :) I have a question...is Lynn Striker her Derby name or real name? If Derby name, can you explain what it means? I have a hard time figuring out clever names sometimes by just reading them.
DeleteI'm CakePuncher, from Yokosuka. I really love the name Grungebob Smashy Pants, from the Ballarat Roller Derby team. It makes me giggle every time I say it :D
ReplyDeleteHowdy from the Jtown Roller Girls, my favorite name so far actually belongs to a ref. His name is F'n. As if "F'in Ref!", I giggle every time I think about it.
ReplyDeleteHello! I'm Gnar Fox from North Texas Derby Revolution. One of our old coaches just made the men's Team USA...anyway, his name is Just the Tip. Definitely my favorite!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite roller girl name of all time is "Sarah Problem" Rat City followed very closely by "Grr Rawr Rawr" of Jet CIty. Damn its hard to pick just one.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite is Deep in Cider from Mass Maelstrom. Honestly it makes my innards cringe, but its also hilarious. I am Notorious trueB.I.G from Hartford Area Roller Derby
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite names is Satan's Little Helper from Angel City Derby Girls. Such a little change but so awesome!
ReplyDeleteI'm Queen of the Vile from the Ventura County Derby Darlins.
My favorite name has always been a skater from the Chicago Outfit, Queefer Sutherland, best name EVER.
ReplyDeleteBarbie Got Back, TXRG
:)
Hey there, I'm Android WK from Toronto Roller Derby. One girl who packs a hit in our league is named Rubher Wrecked'em. A wonderfully nasty play on words that you need to say it out loud to fully appreciate!
ReplyDeletePia Mess from Silicon Valley Roller Girls is one of my favorites. Sloppy Joe of The Deep Valley Belligerents here.
ReplyDeleteHey Pia! I was just down there a few weeks ago and got to skate with the Circuit Jerks...so much fun! :)
DeleteHello Shocker! I'm Voodoo Brawl from Resort City Roller Dolls and one of my favorite derby names belongs "Thistle Hurt" from River City Rollergirls.
ReplyDeleteI'm Jocelyn from Clovis Roller Derby and I have a soft spot for nerdy names. There's a babe in Brazil who skates under the name "Frakkin' Cylon" and I love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is from Athena Latina from the Denali Destroyer Dolls. My favorite (without a doubt) is Bork Bork Bork from Windy City. Not only is it a muppets reference, it is from the Swedish Chef! Total WIN.
ReplyDeleteI'm HardKore Lena from Athens Ohio Roller Derby, and my favorite is Kitty Liquorbottom of Ohio Roller Girls. Always makes me giggle! :D
ReplyDeleteThis is Purrenrage! My fav name is Petri Dishitout. She skates with the Rebels in Denver. I freakin' love microbiology, and this just gives me a nerd-on.
ReplyDeleteThis is Geeking Havoc. I have to say that we've had the most "derby moments" with Vaganna Freud from our Ketchikan league. I help with a lot of the PR work for our league, and Vaganna's name has sparked some interesting conversations! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is Pickering (previously Smiteochondria from the Mass Maelstrom. My favorite name has to be Shark Week from the Boston Derby Dames; it's clever on many levels.
ReplyDeleteT Tripper here from Juneau Rollergirls. We have a transfer from FBX, and her name is Titan Young. I knew that Young was her last name, but it took be a while to get the dirty aspect. I thought she was naming herself after a transformer or something. Ha-- was I wrong!
ReplyDeleteWhimsical Weasel here from Ketchikan. We have a lady on our team called Blades of Grey. Her daughter named her, she thought it was because her hair is grey. She had no idea the name was a combination of the movie Blades of Glory and the book Shades of Grey. Her face when the truth came out was priceless.
